2. Go for lots of blankets

When nighttime temperatures take a tumble, reaching for a blanket to add an extra layer of cosy warmth is the ultimate comforter. Go for the right size, especially if it’s for your bed, you’ll need a large enough one to cover the mattress with a few extra centimetres to tuck in around the sides and bottom. If it’s for the sofa it needs to be able to wrap around, you. Look to wool and cashmere as they are luxurious and soft.

1. Say it with dried flowers

Yes, they are back from the dead, and not only are dried and paper flowers a quick way to add colour to your space but, unlike fresh bouquets, they’ll last a lot longer. For drama add a statement vase and lots of arrangements around your home.

4. Bring the outside in

Foraged pieces like pinecones arranged in bowls and vases displaying tree branches is a great way to decorate your home using nature. This will add texture and colour to your space and create interest when flowers aren’t as readily available.

5. Go for wood

Lots of wood will draw nature indoors and add warmth to the room, dark wood is particularly on trend this season. Whether it’s with shelves, wooden picture frames, stools, pegs and hooks or decorative objects, wood adds texture and when its beautifully crafted it has a wonderful timeless appeal.

6. Switch to statement lighting

From scalloped table lamps to bold pendants, lighting is an instant way to create a warm glow during the darker months and without glare. Illuminate the room with a standout pendant hung above a dining table or group lights together over a kitchen island for a touch of luxe. If you have low ceilings, opt for a light that spreads outwards rather than hanging low. Remember, the rule is five lights per room.

7. Add mirrors to your space

A mirror will bounce around the natural light and visually enlarge the room so don’t be afraid to use them in those unexpected places. Whether you go for a large statement mirror or small ones dotted around the house in hallways or living rooms, mix them up to create interest and light.

8. Always have curtains

Curtains will keep drafts at bay, and dampen sound so dress your windows for winter to add extra cosiness. It doesn’t have to be with heavy fabrics either, light linen is just as effective, and creates a cosy mood not to mention prevent those cold winds from coming in.

9. Luxe up your bedlinen

Now is the time to cosy up your bed with luxurious bed linen, cushions, and throws. These will keep you warm and create a cosy cocoon for those early nights and late winter mornings. Look for natural fabrics like cotton and linen and if you go for neutral tones in your bedlinen add an accent colour with cushions and throws.

10. Warm up your bathroom

Max out on fluffy bathmats and towels, robes, and slippers to feel cosy after your bath and shower. While the basic fluffy white towel is a classic and can give that clean, spa-like feel to any bathroom, you may wish to experiment with colour for an instant refresh. If you use two colours for towels, go for a bathmat in one of the colours. A cosy robe and sheepskin slippers will add to the cosy vibes.

11. Don’t forget books

Stock up on coffee table books to enjoy under a blanket on the sofa. Not only are they simple and stylish to have around your home, but their beautiful covers and graphic spines will add colour and personality to almost any flat surface in a room.
