Summertime means constant beauty maintenance to keep your body, hair, and face looking and feeling good when the heat is up. Follow these easy beauty tips for fun in the sun.
The key to soft skin all summer is to keep up with exfoliating. Smoother skin tans more evenly in the sun and holds onto its colour for longer. There are easier routes than buffing like a mad thing every few weeks. Using exfoliating gloves in the shower everyday doubling up with an exfoliating body wash will keep your skin gently prepped for the sun without eating into your time. It will also keep your tan fresh and bright without sapping it of colour.
SHOP NOWThe little-and-often approach also applies to sun exposure. For every 20 minutes in the sun, spend the next hour in the shade and then take this time to add moisture. If you’re exfoliating regularly, you’ll also have a head start on the hydration as the new cells that have been brought to the surface are fresh and ready to absorb. Natural oils like coconut, shea, and olive are great ingredients to look for in your daily moisturisers.
SHOP NOWThe essential beauty product for not only protecting your skin but for preventing skin damage throughout the summer months. With so many formulas on the market, there is something to suit all skin types, it’s just about finding a texture you like. But whether it’s a cream, milk, spray, or oil, make sure it has a minimum SPF of 30+ so you can safely spend time in the sun. Always apply after swimming and at least every half an hour when you are in the sun.
Like your body, your hair needs protection when you are out in those UV rays. Ideally, wear a sun hat, but for all those times when a hat isn’t appropriate, spray or rub in a leave-in specialised hair protectant. These contain UV filters and all-important moisture-boosting ingredients like coconut, argan, and macadamia oils. These will help prevent split ends and smooth the cuticle, leaving the hair looking shiny and healthy. These protectants will also help to prevent colour fading.
SHOP NOWThe fastest way to up moisture in your skin when you’re in the sun is to spritz it with water, and we don’t mean out of the tap. Carry a hydrating facial spritz in your bag and lightly mist over your face when you feel hot, and your skin feels tight. Look for ones containing cooling and replenishing skincare ingredients like aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants for the ultimate pick-me-up. Keeping it in the fridge is also a great way to cool down when you’ve come back from the beach.
SHOP NOWIf we are our best selves on holiday, the magical hours just before the sun sets are when we are golden. At this stage, the best beauty interventions are minimal ones: after sun, a shimmery body oil for shoulders and legs, a glowy bronzer for the face, and an easy-to-wear fragrance are all we need. Sundowner is optional, although highly recommended.
