Bathing is the new spa day and today bath time has had a serious upgrade with home and beauty brands helping us to transform our everyday bath time into a ritual. So, it’s time to up your soaking experience with these top bathing ideas so it really does feel like a spa in your own home.

In the bath

Whether you use some sort of bubbles, a bath oil or salts in your bath, the aroma will make you feel better. The secret to getting bubbles to properly bubble is to pour them slowly into running water. Bath salts are great for soothing sore muscles and a tired body. Pour a cup of Epsom salts or premade bath salts under running water and then get in and soak away your soreness. If you have dry skin, a bath oil is great for boosting hydration and protecting the skin from the dehydrating effects of hot bath water.

How to have
a good bath

Set the scene

Spas are always calming, serene and minimalist so recreate that vibe in your bathroom. To get the right ambiance for your bath it’s important to have mood lighting. This means either a dimmer in your bathroom or lots of candles, so you don’t have to put the lights on. This will instantly create a calming and relaxed atmosphere. Invest in fluffy towels and a bathrobe as it will always feel luxurious to dry off with a good towel and a slip into a soft fluffy robe afterwards. Don’t forget to add plants, a good bathmat and even a piece of art in the bathroom as it will make it feel more luxurious and spa-like as you soak.

Bathing beauty routine

Now you’ve got the water sorted with calming and nourishing products to help relax, it’s time to do some pampering on your face and body. Start by cleansing your face. Now is a great time to use cleansing oil or balm as you have the time to massage them into your face. Apply to dry skin, so have a small towel handy to dry your hands – if they got wet getting in the bath – and watch all the makeup and dirt from the day melt off. Lean over and pat dry with the towel. Next up, exfoliate. Go for a grainy scrub and work over the face in a circular motion, really getting in around the nose, chin, and forehead, where the excess oil is likely to reside. Rinse off with warm water. Now it’s time to apply a face mask. If you have tried multi-masking, now is the time. Apply a clay-based mask on your t-zone and a hydrating one over the cheeks and dry bits. If you prefer a sheet mask, simply lay over the whole face, lie back and relax allowing all the ingredients to soak into the skin for a least 15 minutes.  While this gets to work, start on your body. Exfoliate with a body scrub, standing up and really working it into the skin in a circular motion. If the skin goes a bit pink, that’s a good thing, it means that your circulation is getting a boost. Now lie back and relax.

After the bath

There’s nothing like slipping into something cosy and comfy after a bath. Whether its nighttime and you’re heading straight into your pjs or it’s during the day and you need loungewear, here’s what to wear to continue the relaxing game.  Oh, and don’t forget to moisturise after you get out of the bath. Apply a body moisturiser or oil to damp skin to give it an extra hydration boost. Your moisturiser will seal in the leftover wet into the skin.

DIY Simple Herbal Bath Salts Recipe

Making your own bath salts is refreshing and relaxing, here’s a simple recipe from My Tiny Laguna Kitchen.

Ingredients

+ 3 cups of Epsom salt
+ 1 cup of Himalayan Pink salt
+ 1/2 cup of baking powder
+ ½ cup of organic dried rose petals
+ ½ cup of dried lavender flowers
+ ½ cup of dried Calendula
+ ½ cup of dried Tulsi Basil
+ 5-10 drops of Lavender essential oil
+ 5-10 drops of Rosemary essential oil
+ 5-10 drops of Cardamom essential oil
+ 2-4 tbsp of Olive Oil

Instructions

Place half of the herbs and flowers into a food processor or coffee grinder and pulse to grind them down to a smaller consistancy. This will also help when the bath drains.

Next, pour the rest of the ingredients into a glass bowl and add the herb and flower mixture and mix well. Then add the drops of essential oils and olive oil into the bowl and again, mix well.

Spoon the contents into a container of your choice and enjoy!
