The eyes age faster than any other part of the face, but with a few tricks and the right products, younger looking eyes can be yours. Here’s what to buy and how to use it.
To de-puff your eyes
You don’t have to suffer puffy eyes first thing in the morning, find out what’s causing them. If they are blueish that’s usually the result of thinning skin which happens as you age. In this case look for an eye cream with retinol which will help to plump up the skin over time and make the blueness caused by blood vessels underneath less visible. If your eye bags are grey its either hereditary or caused by rubbing your eyes too much. Go for a soothing eye cream with calming extracts like aloe vera, chamomile which will ease inflammation. Cooling products will also reduce puffiness so keep your eye gel or cream in the fridge before using.
Lighten dark circles
The only way to instantly lighten dark eyes is to use an under-eye concealer. You may baulk at this as its ‘makeup’ but don’t freak out, it’s not just for women, more and more men are wearing touches of makeup to improve their appearance and if you find the right one, no one will even know. Concealer wands are easy to use, just dab under the eye and blend with your fingertips. Choose a shade that’s slightly lighter than your skin tone as this will help to brighten the area. You only need a little to hide the darkness.
Top tip:
Just remember to always read the packet and apply products gently with the fingertips, avoiding the eyelids.
If eyes are the window to your soul, then the skin around them is an advertising billboard telling everyone your age, lifestyle and how much you sleep. Unfortunately, eyes are the first place to age thanks to the fragility of the skin, the constant movement and a lack of moisture. They are also one of the hardest areas to address as the skin around them is very thin, lymph drainage can be poor, and the blood supply is not great. These things along with your lifestyle can increase ageing, but the good news is that simply hydrating the skin around your eyes can improve its appearance.
To unwrinkle your crow’s feet
If you don’t like those fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes, using an eye product containing active ingredients like retinol, vitamin C or hyaluronic acid will help soften and make them less prominent. These ingredients are gold standard when it comes to anti-ageing as they help to hydrate and resurface the skin at the same time. Don’t expect overnight results, but by making an eye cream part of your skincare routine will definitely improve the skin quality.
